I’m Sathurshan Kannan—a queer performing artist, filmmaker, and social justice advocate from Sri Lanka. With a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts (specializing in Bharathanatyam), I’ve spent years reimagining classical dance as a powerful medium for resistance and healing. As the founder and curator of the Rainbow Art Festival, I bring together LGBTQIA+ and feminist artists to celebrate creativity, challenge norms, and build community.
My documentary பரா, created through the Tamil Media Fellowship, shines a light on transgender performers in the Northern Province—sharing their stories of resilience, artistry, and survival. I lead movement‑based workshops and social media advocacy trainings, partnering with grassroots networks across South Asia to advance gender equality, human rights, and media literacy.
Rooted in intersectionality and driven by solidarity, my work blends embodied performance, visual storytelling, and digital activism. Whether on stage, behind the camera, or in a community circle, I strive to create inclusive spaces where silenced voices are heard and celebrated. Through ongoing projects like Becoming the Body, I aim to connect with changemakers worldwide—co‑creating possibilities for belonging, transformation, and collective joy.
Welcome—let’s imagine and build a more just world, together.
